Is my data and practice safe in the event of data loss or corruption, fire, theft, personal injury, etc…?
Disaster Recovery Plan: This is a detailed document that outlines how you will keep your business running if any level of disaster occurs. Additionally, as part of every good computer system, DDS Integration can provide both onsite and offsite backups. An offsite backup removes human error and is a must-have for your practice.
A diaster recovery plan (DRP) is one of the most important documents a business can have, and most businesses don't. It's simplest explanation is a document that includes all the information necessary to get your business back up and running in the event of any number of disasters including:
- Data Loss - If your server crashes what do we do? With our onsite and offsite backup solutions this is one of the easiest disasters to deal with.
- Flood, Water, or Fire - What are the plans for dealing with these? Do you have a temporary location to see patients? Can you call your patients if your phone and computer systems are down? How will patients call you? Do you have proper insurance to pay for a new building or restoration? New equipment? Staff salary?
- Theft - Is your data password protected and/or encrypted? What if your server and onsite backups are stolen? Let's hope you have an offsite solution as well!
- Personal injury - What if you are injured and cannot see patients? Do you know another doctor that can fill in? Does your insurance provide coverage for this scenario?
There are a number of other disasters that can occur as well. While most of these are unlikely, they can and do happen. Being prepared is a fairly easy and very sensible process. Your disaster recover plan will help ensure you are prepared with necessary coverage and planning and will serve as your step by step guide to getting back to business as quickly as possible.
